    arthur

arthur magazine, probably one of the best culture magazines out there - is looking down the barrel of a gun. they need to raise $20,000 in an unbelievably short period of time and they desperately need help. i know these guys, they’re good peoples. please help them out with whatever you can! every little bit is [...]

    origam-e

i don’t know how this origami iron man got past my radar, but thankfully, steve forwarded this link to the even more impressive and adorable origami wall-e so i could see this guy’s other works. now i must figure out how to make or acquire these two figures so that the pixar/ilm residents of my household [...]

    dorm

i’m cracking up over this ny times article about my old home (and something of a startup project) the hat factory where they describe it as something of a freelancer’s dorm. it’s totally true and accurate, which is what makes it funny. (link via former filmfatale housemate, eddie.com)

    transit

although i regularly bike to work and occassionally take the bus, i’m still startled that san francisco is ranked as the #1 city prepared for high gas prices. our public transit is sorta sucky when compared to other cities in u.s., particularly on the east coast - but i guess all that telecommuting, carpooling, bicycling and tree-hugging [...]

    blockbuster

ok, the battle of the hilarious summer movie synopsis has begun! i can’t decide which is funnier: the abridged script of indy4 or this review of the hulk… by the hulk. (warning, spoilers!)

    verklempt

i gotta admit, when i saw my friend, paul and his partner brad on the front page of the sfgate website getting married, i got all verklempt. i can’t grasp why being happy makes me cry, what the hell is up with that? if this year brings about both same-sex marriage ~and~ a black president, i [...]

    altoids

the little portable theremin kits that folks have been churning out as of late are cute, but they tend to lack one of the key characteristics of theremins – volume control. i mean, there’s only two frigging controls on a theremin, why go only halfway? i know i’m a stickler about it, but ten years of [...]

    winston

r.i.p. stan winston. you’ve amazed us with your skill and creativity for many, many years and the visfx world won’t be same without you. you will be missed.

    skynet

oh, crap! they’ve launched skynet!!!! here’s the clincher quote: “Commands are sent over Skynet 5′s high-bandwidth connections, directing the robot’s every move. This includes firing missiles at enemy targets.” (link via blackbeltjones)

    plastics

plastics is the word of the future, says ben’s dad in the graduate. turns out that plastics might be the thing that drowns us all, but hell, we didn’t know that back then. with that said, it turns out that wood cutting boards might be safer than plastic cutting boards when it comes to bacteria. [...]
