i know, i know. i haven't written anything in six months and you must think i'm a total slacker. it's not true; too much has been happening at a pace faster than i can keep up with or document. there's a new traumatic and weird story to your right (lola). hopefully i'll have time to add more soon. hopefully more weird and less traumatic.

after finally being done with neal stephenson's 910 page cryptonomicon, i was glad to throw myself into haruki murakami's latest compilation of short stories, after the quake. i think it may have taken me a few stories to get back into short story mode, because it turns out that the last few stories were my favorites.

jory and i took the isetta to the nike missile site in the marin headlands with the arcane auto society and watched the raising of the inert hercules missiles. there were apparently just under 100 missiles aimed at all times towards the pacific ocean during world war two, ready at any moment to launch a nuclear attack at oncoming aircraft. the whole experience at the missile site was both interesting and frightening.

adaptation turned out to be about 2/3rds of a really amazing movie. susan orlean of course loved all of it.

i know i'm biased because i drive one of the coolest hybrid electric cars ever, but i think that arriana huffington's detroit project is absolutely fantastic. her link between suv's and terrorism are definitely more believable than the drugs and terrorism commercials that aired last year.

huh... is that what happiness is all about?

here's a pretty decent review of our last album. aside from disliking our lo-fi production, they seem to really like the music.

yes. i admit i played a lot of d&d when i was a kid (you're probably saying to yourself "of course she did"). anyway... that's probably how i already knew that i was going to be an elf. here's another silly test: what d&d character are you?

i've only been using it for a little under a day now, and so far, i think safari is uber-cool. (those are just my two cents.)

i was amused to discover that jory's oqo product is listed as wired's #4 vaporware of 2002. i've personally had the opportunity to watch its development and play around with it for a bit, so i'll let you in on a secret: it's not vapor.

my sister was in town from helsinki (humorously enough, she's one of the only asians currently living in helsinki. if you happen to be there and you see a pinay, tell her that her sister says hi). we went to dave eggers' pirate store at 826 valencia and she totally fell in love with it. the next day, she went with a couple of her friends and the woman behind the counter apparently "mopped" them all... very mysterious.

oh, wait.. i almost forgot to say "arggggh!"

we also stopped off at the cartoon art museum. it was ultra-cool. they had cels of everything from old jay ward cartoons to the powerpuff girls. sketches from steamboat willie were even there, which completely blew me away. they also have a pretty amazing bookstore. if you're in the neighborhood, it is necessary that you check it out.

speaking of cartoons and comics, guitarzan thinks that this is genius. you know... he's right.

here's a little story about wilhelm and his girlie-like scream. it's probably the most famous scream of all time. (link via dawn)

happy new year! here's a toast to a better 365 days ahead (barring war, economy & the general angst that goes with it)

everyone thinks i'm crazy (ok, crazier than usual), but i've decided to go on a juice fast. today was my third day and it was definitely the worst so far; i woke up dizzy, lightheaded and had the chills. is this what it's like ~without~ toxins? if everything i've read so far is accurate, things should only get better from here on out.

hopefully my fast won't bring me to this. (link via steve)

this is somewhat old news, but it's so bizarre that i feel i have to post it. a german software specialist mutilated and ate a microchip engineer. go figure.
