01.31.04

ladies and gentlemen, mister pants is back online! lookin' a little tailored, perhaps?

speaking of breaking away from a hiatus, i've written something new. read all about my lame superpower.

01.25.04

now i'm back in the SLC airport. the flight back to oakland is delayed, but soon all will return to normal.

as i expected, zatoichi was phenomenal. takeshi kitano never fails to make me want to obsess about him more. i just read that miramax bought the rights to it and they're shelving it until the second installment of kill bill comes out. i can't wait to see it again... and possibly again after that. i'm also looking forward to the american release of dolls, his most recent film. (more. beat takeshi. i need more.)

i got to catch a screening of the five obstructions, by lars von trier and jorgen leth (there's some weird danish emphasis i'm supposed to be putting on the o, but i don't know how to make my keyboard do that), which was pretty interesting. my favorite bit was von trier's challenge to have leth remake his 1967 short film 'the perfect human' by using only 12 frame edits. it was beautiful. the presenter at sundance called the whole process documented in the movie as "sadomasochistic filmmaking." personally, i wouldn't mind trying some of that.

01.23.04

well, i just touched down here in park city, utah for the sundance film festival. it's cold and mormon in salt lake city. tonight will be my first chance to watch oedipus with an actual paying audience. i'm looking forward to it. tomorrow i'll be seeing takeshi kitano's u.s. premiere of zatoichi. blind swordsmen abound!

01.14.04

we're on the search for a new housemate. spread the word or email me.

i got an ipod for christmas and i'm totally addicted to it. it's getting me to listen to music that i haven't heard in forever. the violent femmes always reminds me of being a super frustrated and angsty teen driving around in my car on a hot summer day, screaming the lyrics at the top of my lungs. (eight, eight. i forgot what eight was for.)

wow. where's spalding gray?

01.11.04

this is definitely one of the funniest goddamned things i've seen on ebay in a long time.

oedipus will be playing with the short films ii series. not sure if there are still any tickets left, but give it a go.

01.09.04

sound the alarms and kiss your loved ones, the shimmer kids are coming out of hiatus and we have new drugs for your ears. this thursday, january 15th, we're playing at the parkside on potrero hill. groupies welcome.

ummm.. does anyone have any hotel recommendations for sundance?

01.08.04

jory and the rest of the oqo crew are at ces right now, unveiling the device. i hope it does well out there; lord knows we've all put a lot of time and energy into it (including me, and i'm not even working for the company...)

01.07.04

so the latest big news is that the short film i've been helping jason out with was unexpectedly accepted to sundance! i was up at the ranch last night until 2am, sitting in on the sound mix. now i'm tired. if you find yourself in park city, utah at the end of january, get tickets to see 'oedipus' with the other short films. you'll enjoy it. trust me.

01.05.04

angela has funny stories. hear her tell yet another unbelievably weird story about her dad on kalw's invisible ink. go to show #44 and begin listening at around minute 11.

timely enough, angela is also an expert on bovine spongiform encephalopathy. eric schlosser (fast food nation) just wrote an insightful piece on mad cow for the new york times. (free registration required)

the craaaaane. buzz lightyear had nothing on this.

steve forwarded these pictures of hand knits for young moderns. they're so bad, they're cool.

01.02.04

huh. it's a new year, but i don't feel any different. and where's my spacesuit? weren't we promised spacesuits by 2000? now we're four years overdue.

only two days into the new year and i'm already so demanding.
