this reminds me of the first scene in the old infocom hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy game. read all the badly translated english and escape the room. (link via zach)

these lessons on how to be the perfect shatner could come in handy some day. (via geekpress)

once you've successfully achieved shatner-hood, you'll probably need to get yourself an imaginary girlfriend (stevelink)

here's a site that's making the asian weblog meme: i-am-asian.com. what the...?! this site is so wrong on so many levels. (via mister pants)

here's some goodness in the world: 826 valencia is now holding adult workshops! i have to sign up for one of these at some point. it would help me do the thing with the words and the... ummm... stuff. (via kottke)

the new owner of my old 1961 nash metropolitan is giving it more love and care than i unfortunately had time for. he's even given it its own website!

over the weekend i ran into a woman who is working on a super disturbing project. she makes friends and total strangers wear the creepiest clown sweater you could possibly imagine. then she posts the pictures on the internet.

wow, it's been a crazy week around here since mayor newsom started issuing marriage licenses to same sex couples. friends of mine that have been with their partners for over a decade are stumbling over to city hall, drunk with love. it's amazing and beautiful. i really do love this city.

i just heard word from steve that a guy is collecting money to send flowers for couples in line!

speaking of long term relationships, our band, the shimmer kids, will be playing another show for you all at club deluxe, this saturday. this is going to be our last show as the shimmer kids before we unveil our new, more potent superpower band name. come join us and buy the theremin player a drink. (i hear she likes vodka tonics.)

rumor has it that there's a new haruki murakami book coming out in english soon. i can't wait...

there's this whole new quirkyalone meme that's been making the rounds lately. it doesn't seem like a bad concept, but i hate the word quirky. for some reason, 'quirky' completely drives me nuts and makes me annoyed that it's becoming the new metrosexual (another word that i've grown to really dislike. maybe i should just learn a new language.)

while we're on the topic of meeting people and learning a new language, i thought it was hilarious that the next they might be giants meetup is taking place in tokyo.

i haven't yet decided if i want to marry buckaroo banzai or be buckaroo banzai. it's very confusing.

driving to work this morning, i looked in my rearview mirror and saw behind me a clown driving an suv. i had flashbacks.

is it bad form to link back to your own site or is it just a malkovich thing?

i've always wanted to self-publish a book of my own writing but never quite understood the process of going about it. it's not that i think that highly of my writing, but more than anything, it's because i like to physically have a product in front of me. i just found out about publish and be damned and i thought... well damn, why don't i do this? it looks like i would need to sell at least 10 copies to break even, so let me know if you'd be interested in purchasing one.

smack the penguin. it's cathartic.
