steve sent out this link to paper plate sculptures - circular modular geometric origami! the mind boggles.

after getting my speeding ticket, i found myself in the phishy state of vermont.

hunter s. thompson's last essay for espn online and it's a great one: shotgun golf with bill murray. thanks, gonzo. it's sad to see you go.

robin forwarded this link that seems to uncover a weird fetish by president bush. i'm not quite sure what to say about it.

i keep hoping that this story about the 'reimaging' of looney tunes characters is an onion article. but i don't think it is. (link via josh)

i wish i wasn't in the middle of three books right now with a couple more lined up waiting to be read. whichbook.net has a really neat graphical interface for helping you decide what a good read might be. check it out.

jason made an awesome video of the explosions of chinese new year. watching fireworks in silence is mesmerizing.

i just saw bright eyes at the berkeley community center. it was his 25th birthday and the first time that i had ever seen the audience sing to the singer. he waited patiently as they all warbled happy birthday. the whole show was so frikking adorable in an i'm-in-love-and-naive-but-in-a-soulful sort of way. even in my world-weary, broken down day, i couldn't help but grin.

punk music made easy. you might want to turn the volume down if you're at work. (link via robin)

the weather outside is grey and i just bought the latest haruki murakami book, kafka on the shore. i have slight apprehensions since this one isn't translated by alfred birnbaum or jay rubin, but i'm sure philip gabriel will do justice to murakami's prose.

the bbc does a great show about the history of the theremin. click on the 'good vibrations' story. stick around for the super nerdy theremin song at the end of the segment.

it's weird to think that as of yesterday, i've been writing this weblog for five years. i should make a cake or something.

caught ray last night. it was really good. jamie foxx does an excellent performance and the story of ray charles is already pretty captivating. bonus feature: he also comes with his own soundtrack.

it turns out that paula nelson millstone jennings, the worst poet in the universe, according to the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, was actually based on a real person. meet paul neil milne johnstone.

i just saw mike nichols' closer. it was very well done but super traumatizing.

less traumatic is amg's review of our latest album. i'm always a little startled when there's a review - i keep suspecting that nobody listens to our music.

it's gizoogle! a search engine that will translizzle your text, yo! (link via wayneco)

our band has been in the studio for the past few days recording tracks for the next album. it's exhausting. my brain and ears are fried.

oh, onion, how much do i love thee? let me count the ways... one: an insight stalks a prius. "careful! right now he thinks he's lost us, so don't squeal your low-rolling-resistance tires!" (ok, maybe i'm the only one who thinks this link is funny...)

here's the latest on smart cars in the u.s. - it looks like california will have to wait while they pass emissions tests (which shouldn't be an issue at all)

my favorite news bit of the day: ipods are invading microsoft!

this is a great little bit of animation about the end of the world.
