last night, a motley crew of 25 of us got into our bathrobes and carried towels with us to the opening night of hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, adding a dose of surreal to the metreon. i think one of my favorite bits was john and lamont on the muni, asking other passengers were the showers were. performance art nerd comedy. who needs tv when you can just confuse people in realtime?

speaking of mos def, josh had mentioned this movie a long time ago and i just remembered it again now: a dave chapelle/michele gondry project revolving around the stax label's 1972 l.a. concert to benefit the community of watts. if you ever find yourself driving through the memphis area, i'd recommend a visit to the stax recording studio's museum - it's well worth the visit if you're at all interested in soul/r&b/gospel music. they were an amazing label that focused on building community during some incredibly harsh times in america's racial history and i'm beyond excited that chapelle and gondry are working on this.
