i'm so bummed that i'll be missing lev's solo show tomorrow at artist's television access in san francisco. he's a funny guy and i have a suspicion that the show will be pretty entertaining. although i can't make it, i think you (yes, you.) should check it out.

those french sure know how to rob a bank with style. when was the last time you've heard of an american robbing an armoured car with a rocket launcher? escaping while throwing nails behind was the nicest touch of all. (starlink)

i thought that my transparent laptop was pretty special... but then steve pointed out the hello kitty laptop.

oodles and oodles of google.

i just got back from seeing kids in the hall performing live at the warfield. it was absolutely amazing. it was the hardest i had laughed since the south park movie and i'm afraid i might have popped a comedy neuron. just when i had thought that the skits had gotten far too surreal, they did the skit about the nymphomaniac named lorelei having virtual sex with the 'squish-your-head' guy. that... was surreal.

oh dear lord, now i'm going to have these terrible nightmares about gigantic naked chickens gone awry.

i saw the last episode of x-files. aside from being a weird clip show and not revealing too much of anything, it at least inspired a pretty funny article from salon; the dialogue between all the characters had me grinning. "baby."

just what you always needed: a pocket-sized version of the bill of rights printed on steel so you can give 'em up whenever requested in this brave new world. (thanks for the link, steve)

the jackie chan/ani difranco cover of 'unforgettable' will now be filed in the fascinating, yet terrifying category. (jorylink)

more of hong kong actors in surreal situations: michelle yeoh, david lynch and sharon stone. behold! (joshlink)

you've all been asking me and i can't really say too much, but yes, i saw attack of the clones. it was good. we were all pretty surprised.

man... i thought that this gift was so cheesy. (link via steve)

i love guerrilla art. this art piece makes me think of all the wonderful things i like about the billboard liberation federation and then some. (link via jory)

have obituaries always been this entertaining? i'm a little surprised that i've posted two in the past month, but i can't help it. (nicklink)

botflies. remember to stay away from botflies.

you know you need it. raging hormones barbie is now available on ebay.

go! go see it!! spiderman was pretty fantastic, if you ask my opinion. willem defoe was a mad genius, the guy who played jameson was perfect, perfect, perfect and tobey macguire was 100% believable. go now!

apparently, people from los angeles have been taking their driver's tests in paris. (link via steve)

although i haven't really skateboarded in awhile, i still have a lovely collection of 16mm skateboarding films. all those funny looking skateboarders from the 70's caught my interest again when i heard terry gross interview stacy peralta on fresh air today.

matt groening says that he was misquoted and misunderstood. the simpsons will stick around. <burns>excellent.</burns>

the movie i just finished working on deals with cops that can arrest you based upon your future. the timing of this news article is a little too unnerving for me.

i never realized that you could take a course on the history of motels, but hey, the internet teaches new things every day, just like the oracle known as television. salon mourns for the original holiday inn signs.

i'm both sad and slightly relieved that groening is thinking of wrapping it up for the simpsons. the past few seasons have been a little strange, but not without its treasures. more than anything, i'm sadder that futurama has no future. (link via the summer)

i've been following the eatonweb blog and filmfatale has been in the eatonweb portal for what must be a few years now. lately, i really have to commend her for her insights on epilepsy.

fisher price's new kid pda, pixter, fascinates me because i love the idea of developing new technology for kids. hell, if it weren't for fisher price, we wouldn't ever have had pixelvision. in my jimmy stewart 'it's a wonderful life' version of a pixelvisionless existence, the world was much less interesting.

i know i'm always constantly linking to lynda barry's latest, but... it just feels like people need to know. please pass the jam.

craigslist is an online resource for acquiring stuff and people in the bay area. there's also some good reading there too. a lot of the missed connections are a little disturbing, but i particularly liked the history of bart and the tale of the waitress and the napkin.

this review of my film "effects of different..." made me laugh. i'm a little bit bothered that nobody ever notices the audio track, but as long as people enjoy it, i can't really complain.

funny. i just got an email from my friend the entomologist, and then i got another email about etymology. what... what i ask, are the odds of that?! my excitement could only go up after i learned the history of the octothorpe.

i have to agree with star (which is not an octothorpe), roof jumping is the ultimate kid fantasy. now luc besson will bring to screen the adventures of le parkour.

just an observation: the cross-marketing of the spiderman film is getting to be a little terrifying. i know i should be dulled to it, but i can't help myself.

jesus h. christo, i've been totally slammed and have barely even had time to think. now the servers are being slammed because jory's been slashdotted. the press for oqo has been a good thing... or wait... maybe the servers being slow is a bad thing.

it's funny to see how cnn has twisted the jpl press release about an asteroid headed our way into a news story about an asteroid that will kill us!!

dji's friend has posted these awesome logan's run radio spots for all to share. renew!!! renew!!!!!

nick found this great (if slightly outdated) list of theremin recordings available for the world to listen to. i've heard of most of them and disagree with a couple of them (i.e. beach boys' good vibrations and portishead's dummy), but all in all, it's an excellent resource.

as far as obituaries go, this is the funniest damn obituary i've ever read. (link via the gorgeous mo!)

i usually don't link to the onion since i figure that everyone already reads it anyway, but 37 record-store clerks feared dead in yo la tengo concert disaster and it hurts my feelings when you leave before the credits are done hit too close to home for me to not laugh really, really hard.

happy birthday mister slater brooks penney! may the mimes never taunt you.

i saw jonathan richman at the makeout room last night. i love jonathan. jason describes it best when he says "all of jonathan richman's songs make sense after you see him perform live."

by the way, congratulations to jason, who was the third place winner at north beach's oyster and beer festival's oyster eating contest this weekend! oh man... that was quite a show to watch.

once again, google impresses me with their newest and latest technology.

everything's been hectic lately. i'm down to the last week or two of working on minority report and things are looking pretty good. philip k. dick once again brings us a paranoid, gritty future and despite the tom cruise factor, i still think it's going to be a good ride.

i'm also getting into the final stages of building my bedroom. i just need to sand and varnish the second floor and then build a new window to replace the one that was hijacked. soon! soon i will live in a real room!

i saw this at cesar chavez and mission street a few weeks ago and i couldn't resist taking a picture:
