artvansf will be holding a drive-by showing to benefit marcus brooks. it'll be held in golden gate park on saturday afternoon and you should go.

speaking of marcus, he's making a short film titled 'unnecessary surgery' with syd garon, creator of wave twisters the movie. i'm excited to see the final product.

it's finally out; minority report, the movie that i've been slaving over for the past year has finally hit the theaters and i'm a little surprised to say that i'm proud to be associated with it.

if you got a chance to see it over the weekend, you may or may not find precrime.org interesting. your mileage may vary.

i am relieved to know that when i finally attain my status of supervillain, then i will be able to shop for everything i need over the internet! villainsupply.com provides one stop shopping for all your nefarious needs. personally, i would like one of each. (link via steve)

i went to this absolutely amazing blade runner retrospective that the visual effects society held on saturday. eleven members of douglas trumbull's special effects team (including doug trumbull himself) talked about how they made the effects for the 90 shots created for the film. afterwards was a 15 years of pixar presentation (with ray harryhausen sitting in the audience). being in a room with that much creativity made me almost want to pop.

i haven't seen a john woo movie in awhile. it seems to me that all his hollywood films are poor comparisons to anything that he was allowed to make in hong kong. i'm surprised to report that i thought windtalkers was one of the closest in style to old-school john woo than anything else he's made here in the states. it had all the woo cliches that one could possibly hope for: buddies willing to die for each other, slow motion gunplay, the required close-up in slow motion of the cigarette burning. if it weren't for my own queasiness about the battle sequences, i'd probably rant about the movie some more.

i've been having some painful rsi symptoms lately. i can't tell if it's from working on the computer, playing theremin, cutting/winding film, cutting steel or god-knows-what but this goddamned arm hurts. steve thinks i should get a helper monkey.

coincidentally enough, on the same day i received this link from star about monkeys gone bad.

perhaps i should get myself a beer-opening robot. that should reduce some rsi... (link via mr. geekboy)

i hadn't realized that there weren't any asians in south park until i went to the german south park gamesweb site. you can make yourself into a south park character if you click on the dogs humping (in the left column under interaktiv) and choose "sp-studio"

come see my band tonight! the shimmer kids underpop association will be playing songs of longing for interstellar sweethearts, ballads to rockets and something in spanish. watch as i use the the theremin and the power of electricity to hand deliver music to your ears! 16mm educational films about social habits and physics will bedazzle your eyes. we'll be at edinburgh castle (950 geary) along with the slow poisoners. the show starts at 9:00pm and it's free! free!

it's always funny to find the sites that obsess over the movie cliches. here's bad movie physics.

in all likelihood, this is probably cliche, but i think that this is one of my favorite pictures of this year so far.

my friend jacques is about to put out trash, his new book about b-movie poster art. i have a copy, so should you.

for some reason, it makes sense to me that people in white labcoats and beakers with weird toxins in them will come up with some funny things. the next thing you know, they'll come up with a website listing molecules with silly or unusual names. (link via dan-star)

there are some great mysteries in life. one of them is the shoe tree.

my cow-orkers and i watched the phantom edit today during lunch. needless to say, we were still disappointed. there's still too much jar jar and of the boy for us to want to pay attention.

the fact that compaq's faq has to answer a question about the any key is a little frightening. humorous, but frightening.

this story about british soldiers encountering gay afghan farmers reeks of satire, but i'm led to believe that this comes from an actual news source. on the other hand, i do find it funny that the scottish are so skittish about the subject. someone hide the sheep. (link via the summer)

i got this link about monday's solar eclipse from both geekboy and star. i don't know if it's because it's a popular link or if they think i'm particularly nerdish about these sorts of things. either way, it's pretty exciting.
