i woke up in deadwood and went to go see mt. rushmore.

geek humor. i'm sorry. i can't help it.

speaking of geeks, the guardian uk polls scientists on their top 10 favorite movies. talk about a scientific poll...

jory sent me this awesome link of the best commercial ever. (i really need a non-reversal tremulpipe.)

i work with john knoll, one of the guilty parties responsible for photoshop. for some reason, i've been seeing a lot of articles about the history of photoshop come through my way. this article is an interesting insight in the origin of everyone's favorite image app.

and this history is just damn funny.

as long as we're on the subject of evolving technologies, what about the ipod vs. the cassette?

leaving yellowstone, i stopped at devil's tower and then spent a night in deadwood.

yesterday, cassidy led adventures through some amazing graffiti as he gathered images for his graffiti archeology site. it was the first time i had actually witnessed a full-on, multicolored, gigantic tag being made and it was all amazing chaotic color to feed the eyes.

later in the day, we wandered over to damon soule's art garage sale, where he's selling drawings, sculptures and possessions before heading out on his cross country move to new york. i bought two great sketches of his (one of robots, robots, robots!) and he was amazing and kind enough to ~give~ me a box full of 16mm educational films!! oh joy!

the superfantastic reason why damon is moving to new york is because he's been commissioned to design some toys for kid robot!!!

although i'm wildly obsessed with michelle yeoh and i'm always stoked to see her in a new role, i think it's kind of weird that the leads which have been cast in memoirs of a geisha are both chinese.

i guess i never mentioned that i had a blast a siggraph. it was good to see so many friends and to check out the confluence of science and art. bruce sterling made an interesting keynote address, even though it didn't seem like it was particularly addressed to the siggraph crowd.

we're having a spinal tap moment and are currently looking for a new drummer. john has decided to leave us to go to new york and we're all saddened. the weird thing about looking for a new bandmember is that it feels sort of like a blind first date. nobody knows what to expect from the other person and nobody knows how the evening's going to end. if you want to give it a go or can recommend someone, let me know.

here's some super-cool microscopy footage of a tiny, six-legged creature.

i just discovered that kcrw has the entire hitchhiker's radio show available online! and there was much rejoicing.

terry gross interviews gretchen worden, the director of philadelphia's fantabulous mutter museum.

i feel embarrassed to admit that i went and saw harold and kumar go to white castle tonight. it's a worthy new cheech and chong heir. the scene where kumar falls in love with the pot is hyperventilatingly funny.

i feel a little less guilty about seeing harold and kumar because i bought my ticket for fahrenheit 911 instead. i'm planning on buying tickets to fahrenheit 911 for all the movies i go to in the near future until the film finally leaves the theaters.

forget about the thunderbirds. go team america!

another comedy that i'm anxiously awaiting is shaun of the dead. i didn't realize i was missing zombie comedy until i saw this trailer. it's been a long time since peter jackson's dead alive.

after spending time at lava hot springs back in may, i drove into wyoming and camped out at yellowstone national park.

tron vs. star wars - the debate that will last through the ages.

comedy is pulling out all the stops for the election. will ferrell uses his george w. impression for the fine folks at america coming together.
