every now and then, it just seems like a good idea to look at pictures in space.

i know i'm a sentimental sucker, but it makes me sad that evil has bought odwalla. i remember when i could only buy odwalla in santa cruz and the hippies were the only ones who knew about it. now it's going to be made in the largest quantities possible with the lowest quality fruits in order to be sold to the largest demographic. where's the joy in that?

movies that i am currently dying to see: monsters inc, waking life, heist, k-pax and the one. i'm embarrassed to admit that i want to see the one, but... i just can't resist jet li.

oh my god! run! chemistry comes alive!

does anyone have any recommendations for a good tai chi instructor in san francisco? let me know.

there's a really cool philip glass retrospective happening in los angeles right now. i hope that it travels up the coast to northern california because i would love to see the peter greenaway piece with philip glass accompaniment.

haruki murakami makes observations about terrorism in america. his last book translated to english consisted of interviews with survivors of the subway sarin attack in tokyo. it's really fascinating, you should give it a read if you haven't yet. (nytimes - free registration required)

we were watching sylvester stallone's last movie, driven, today at lunch (don't ask - it's best you don't know). anyway, in an attempt to find what the paltry box office was during its run, i've stumbled upon the-numbers.com. a great site for tracking down box office figures for the curious. by the way, driven is a horrible movie- avoid it at all costs. you have been warned.

there's this new they might be giants game for wicked little critta. there doesn't seem to be any scoring system, so it's not really much of a game, but you get to hear john sing in a wicked baaastan accent.

has anyone else ever noticed that the first ingredient listed on a can of libby's vienna sausage is "mechanically separated chicken?"

i don't know if anyone has been paying too much attention to peter pan lately, but if you have, you'll be amused to know that peter pan has found his tinkerbell. yes... i know it's weird, but i can't help but be fascinated.

hmmm... if i could choose between inflatable loudspeakers versus cute roadies, i think i'd still choose the cute roadiers.

10.22.01

did anyone watch the concert for new york city show on television last friday? after seeing both susan sarandon and david bowie live on stage, i've decided that they're really vampires. just look at catherine deneuve in dancer in the dark and tell me that you don't think she's going to live forever too. mark my words: the hunger was not a movie.

i don't care what anyone says... idioms are cool.

you know what else is cool?? gumby! gumby gumby gumby!!!! (link via the always terrific misterpants)

when i grow up, i want to live in a missile silo. ok... i guess i might need to live in a missile silo if everything else gets bombed all to hell... (link via memepool)

toyota and sony are about to announce their new product, the pod, a car that emotes and senses your own emotions. initially, it seems like a cool thing, but add satellite hookups to it, and the photos of your favorite conversations can be transmitted to any marketer or government agency in the world. naw... i'm not paranoid.

i haven't seen these yet, but i'm excited to know that there are easter eggs on the simpsons dvd set! excellent...

what were the results of your sat english scores?? test your vocabulary now - report your results along with your admission forms and we will get back to you before the semester begins. (via silly cow)

wahoo! i just blew a lot of money on the prisoner box set! i'm both apprehensive and excited about the idea of a prisoner movie in 2003. there are so many things that are good about this show, which only makes me think that there are many more things that could go wrong with the movie.

i saw mulholland drive last night. it seems to be pretty much everything you would expect a david lynch movie to be - sex, death and the occassional hit of acid.

10.13.01

you can probably tell that i've been trying to keep links relating to current events at a minimum. i figure you're probably as inundated with it as i am, but i couldn't help but think that anthrax's latest press release was pretty funny. yes, i'm talking about the metal band, not the spore.

in other news, polaroid has filed for bankruptcy. sad as that is, i was rather interested in their financial restructuring faq. i hope that they can find a way to stay in business - despite this era of digital technology, i still think that their products are very cool.

after watching yuen wo-ping's iron monkey, nica and jim were shocked that i had never seen it. how could i have possibly never seen this incredible movie before? even i'm distressed about this...

10.10.01

lars bought me simpsons toys! of course, he had to buy dead cow as well, but at least i didn't have to eat any for the toys. burger king's new line of halloween simpsons action figures are out. wahoo!

warning: the consumption of alcohol will make the no hands, no feet, no neck people act really funny.

10.08.01

hooray! (or 'huzzah' if you're feeling particularly medieval) our network access is back up at the warehouse! thank god... i was starting to feel like i was missing a limb...

i was pretty ecstatic when it was announced that william shatner would be hosting iron chef usa, but when i found out that ron popeil is a judge, i nearly popped out of my skull. popped, i tell you! (link via schlomo)

the deuces, you say! sexclowns is not what you think it is... i repeat, sex clowns is not what you think it is.

i present to you, ladies and gentlemen... webvan haiku! (via fuckedcompany)

the news has been pretty hectic these past few weeks, and unfortunately, i'm afraid that this great laurie anderson interview by the onion may have slipped past everyone's filters...

ok, so i'm the first one to admit that i've had some bad ideas in my day... but otime magazine points out the worst ideas of the century! i have to disaggre with the u.s. metric campaign though. fractions suck.

10.03.01

i don't really know what to say about this... i guess all i can say is, "like, wow"

it's khai day! look for him in these photos.

well i'll be damned. if it's not one thing, it's another - i've been backed up on updating because the net connection at my place is down. this update is brought to you via the kindess of the bay area wireless group as well as my netstumbling ventures around the neighborhood around work with my buddy, grue. i suspect things will be fairly sporadic until our connection is re-established...

this animation from korea is pretty damn cute - there are six episodes, but picnic and melancholy are my favorite two. (link via dunstan)

while we're on the subject of cute, i didn't realize i needed a plethysmometer until i saw how hilariously adorable the mice look when they're getting measured... (link via patrick)

mike assures me that we won't be experiencing ww3 yet... or at least that's what the star trek timeline indicates (insert geek noise here)

for just a mere buck seventy-five, this guy will come over to your house and kick your ass! just remember, you can't press charges against him, because after all, you bought the ass-kicking.
