after
our day at the spam museum, i drove two hours in the reverse direction
to drop becky back off at her house. re-routing myself in the return
direction eastward, i pulled into madison,
wisconsin.
i
don't know what is it about me and french directors. i love 'em.
if the elections give me the wrong results, i should just learn
french and leave the country. jean-pierre jeunet has a new movie
coming out in december and it's been a
very long engagement.
aquarius
records
does a funny thing to my wallet. before i know it, the money is
quickly replaced by music, like jesus turning water into wine. the
new japancakes album is good. it's great, even. it's like soundtrack
music for my life right now.
bjork's
medulla is more like soundtrack music for when my life has that
surreal, tripping sort of feeling. i like to alternate this record
with japancakes.
i
also got the new david
cross. i'm ready to give myself some good laughs, (you can never
complain about good laughs.)
new
photos are up on flickr.
in
case you haven't yet, you should go to vote-smart.org.
if
you live in san francisco,
the sf bay guardian has a good breakdown of who endorses what.

we,
the shimmer kids, have done what we always wanted to do and became
astronauts. now we're the society of rockets and our debut album
is out! check
out our new release at parasol records and support some independently
made music!
speaking
of helsinki (see my terrible pun from a few days ago), here's a
great site which tracks helsinki
graffiti. (link via gmtplus9)

a
few months ago, our company announced that they were opening offices
up in frikkin' singapore, which threw a whole mess of people into
a bit of a panic because a lot of the work that we wanted to do
is now going to be based in those offices. one
of conan o'brien's writers looked at the whole outsourcing issue
in a really funny way (warning, this is long, but still very
funny)
10.26.04
my
sister has been visiting me from out of town and is going home to
helsinki tomorrow. you might say that her holiday is finnished.
(i'm sorry. i couldn't help it)
10.24.04
these
are three of my favorite things: time
lapse. road trips. michel gondry's brain.
10.22.04
i'm
traumatized. i've lost my favorite pen. i've had this awesome cross
pen for years and it felt so beautiful when it wrote and... and...
-=sigh=-
i
pine for my pen. words will taste different now.
fortunately,
jason randomly sent me this link about crayons
and spiderman. the lack of air and resulting delerium i am experiencing
from all the laughing will help me get over the grief of my pen.
(deep down, though, i know that a crayon is not a cross pen.)
10.20.04
i
was busting up the other day when my co-worker, jim, said (to a
female co-worker who had never seen it) "once you watch caddyshack,
you're going to understand men a lot better." after i got over
the shock of realizing that someone i know has never seen caddyshack
(dear lord), i saw this
video and thought that this should also be included in the boy
manual.
10.19.04
my
super funny friend, jason, is now also super broke, which i believe
has the potential to make him even funnier, but i don't want him
to die of starvation (being a desperate artist is a fine line).
he's broke mainly because he spent every red cent he had making
oedipus,
and now he's
gotta sell his shoes.
10.18.04
like
millions of other americans, i have the biggest crush on jon stewart.
he's like a comedy superhero to me. here
he is, being brilliant on crossfire.
10.17.04
fifteen
years ago on this evening, i was sleeping on the soccer field of
the uc santa cruz campus with the rest of the student population.
everyone was terrified of the aftershocks and getting drunk. we
had been evacuated from the dorms but fortunately, since we were
on bedrock, all the buildings were still left standing. happy anniversary,
loma prieta.
oh,
yeah... and happy birthday josh!
thanks
to my awesomely good pal jon scott, i was able to see a screening
of the
incredibles tonight! all's i can say is: i can't wait to see
it again! (i hadn't realized that this american life's sarah vowell
was one of the voice talents. how cool!)
10.16.04
it's
been a week of celebration. i went to oqo's
launch party the other night over in their old offices. i was telling
jory that it felt like the closing scene of a movie - there was
the entire cast of characters from the past five years of my life
all in one place. i half expected the closing credits of my life
to roll through travis' video projections.
the
new york times reviews the oqo.
although
i'm super bummed that i missed seeing shaun
of the dead with lamont and his crew (they dressed
up like zombies, went drinking at zeitgeist and then went to
see the movie), i'm glad i finally got to see it the other night.
european zombie comedies. you can't go wrong.
10.11.04
the
wedding had a self service photo booth. it was like do it yourself
prom. the thing i like about these pictures is that it makes me
remember some of the most important reasons why i hang out with
these people - they're all totally adorable and they completely
crack me up. as far as i'm concerned, being able to make me laugh
means you're ok in my book.
10.10.04
yes,
merin & rusty's wedding was a blast. the afterparty at my house
was a bit chaotic, but all is well. i drank too much wine. my head
hurts.
my
housemate, jim, showed me this super trippy link of the zoom
quilt. this also makes my head hurt.
there's
a new spanish
film coming out about a theremin player! i better start brushing
up on my spanish.
10.09.04
steve
forwarded me this link that answers the age old question: who's
missing from your chewable vitamins?
merin
and rusty get wed today! two of my favorite people join forces to
become one - like chocolate and peanut butter! (mmm... chocolate
and peanut butter.)
10.07.04
my
friend cassidy has begun promoting the
destroy fund. donate your money to the powers of good and (as
cassidy says) put your money where your mouth is.
after
hitting mount rushmore, there was a quick visit to becky's house
and then we both took off for the spam museum.
10.04.04
angela
and i threw a stop motion felt board party for her birthday. this
is the chaos we created. ben calls it epichaos.
while
we were animating the felt, cassidy
took his own timelapse of everybody.
this
link has been making the rounds quite a bit lately. the
powers of editing dissects the gop convention.
merin
had her bachelorette party on saturday and i can tell you i was
pretty thoroughly damaged by sunday. i think the other girls could
tell that i was daunted by the "get your makeup on and be girly"
theme, because they were kind enough to not make me really do any
of that. now ~that's~ friendship. congratulations, merin!
meanwhile,
jory and vance planned rusty's bachelor party for the same night
and neither of those boys would let me crash it. they rented a train
car and drove it around!! how totally frikkin' cool is that?!
oedipus
will be playing at the mill valley film festival. if you missed
it at resfest, buy
your tickets now! i swear, it's guaranteed ha ha's. (if you
don't live in san francisco, you can see
where oedipus is playing in your neighborhood here.)
