happy buy nothing day! i hope your thanksgivings were well-fed and friends were abound.

just when i think like i'm feeling a little obsessive-compulsive about a project of mine, i'll stumble upon someone like dr. young chu park and his tiny, tiny, gears. (link via jory)

ok, normally, i don't link to anything sexual (especially for all my friends surfing at work), but after reading that dan savage wants to get 'santorum' used in the lexicon, i thought, wow... now there's a man with a cause for comedy. i stand behind him! (link via metafilter)

"back in my day, we didn't even have floppy drives, we had tape cassettes! you had to listen to the data screeching through the tv speakers! <cue waving of cane>" ahh.... i miss my old atari 800. fortunately, steve forwarded me this link to obsolete computers.

the canadians love the shimmer kids, eh?

like chocolate and peanut butter, my aural sensations get two great tastes that taste great together: terry gross interviews they might be giants!

for your enjoyment... nerd humor!

my eyes hurt.

you've probably seen this, but here's the guide to friendster photos.

david valentine sent me a stern email telling me to update my website. (eep! i've disappointed my friends!) he said there better be a good reason for me to be slacking off on the updates, so i guess i'll let everyone know what's been distracting me from the links and hijinks:

a) it was my birthday on wednesday (whoo hoo!!)
and
b) i just got a promotion!! (whoo hoo!!)

a) i love birthdays. every time november 12th rolls around, i'm absolutely thrilled that another year has gone by where i haven't done anything so stupid that it got me killed, maimed or destitute. a toast to another year, my friends!

b) i have dropped the 'assistant' from my 'visual effects editor' title at work and now am a full-on, bona-fide visual effects editor. if you want to get fancy, you could even call me a 'lead visual effecs editor' but i sort of don't feel like i've earned my sea-legs enough to be saying that too loudly. fancy title or no, it's scary, nerve wracking, yet really, really exciting! my production tells me i'm doing a good job, but i'm still really nervous.

last wednesday was awesome. i handled a director transmission for the satellite feed to london and then after work, half the shimmer kids and i went to go see spiritualized at bimbo's. this is the second time i've been able to see spiritualized on my birthday! the last time around they played at the fillmore and it was a really great time. this time around, justin (our trumpet player) talked me and the bouncers into going backstage where i got to hang out with jason spaceman and crew. pictures will be posted shortly. oh, yes they will.

i just got a chance to see battle royale at work the other day. although i have been wanting to see this for months now, i didn't realize that takeshi kitano was one of the lead actors! to round out the japanese stardom, the actress who played gogo in kill bill is also in this film. all in all, it was quite the gore-fest.

ahhh... november. i age another year in a couple weeks. i was telling my visual effects supervisor today about how i had learned typing on a mavis beacon typing game when i was a kid. his response was "you mean a couple years ago?" it's getting to the point where i'm actually hoping that people start thinking that i'm an adult.

i just got back from visiting my sister at reed college this weekend. jory and i caught a they might be giants show in reed auditorium with the real kids. (tmbg was awesome, by the way.)

while in portland, we stayed at the kennedy school bed & breakfast, a hotel that was originally an elementary school dating back to 1915. if you ever find yourself in the area, you absolutely must spend a night at the school. it's a really nice hotel as well as a super-funny place to stay.

moveon.org is sponsoring a bush in 30 seconds contest. make your own commercial about why people shouldn't vote for bush and get nationwide airtime. very cool.

isbister forwarded me this link about mo kin, a korean three year old xylophone player. personally, i think she's a robot.
