whuzzah wha? it's the last day of 2003? that's a little startling. i don't think i had quite fit into my 2003 skin yet. ah well, time to shed the old and test out this shiny new 2004 self...

my 19 year old sister, michelle, is in town and staying with me for two weeks. she's on her christmas break from reed college and it's been fun showing her around. on the other hand, i think it's sort of made me realize how i'm not really geared towards having children. even at nineteen, she seems not quite as self-autonomous as i was expecting.

we discovered yesterday that there is now a giant robot sf store. this was particularly exciting since we weren't able to make it to the giant robot los angeles store while we were visiting our mom. one stop shopping for all my asian pop culture needs. most excellent.

i have also appeared to have consumed an obscene amount of books in a surprisingly short period of time. in the past week, i've purchased paul auster's latest, oracle night and dave egger's you shall know our velocity, as well as our band could be your life. on top of that i also bought stitch 'n bitch as well as a book about felting. the embarrasing bit is that i still haven't gotten started on quicksilver yet. at least i know i'll be prepared for the next rainy day. (to balance things out, i bought my sister a copy of diamond age. i thought it would be good for her.)

stuck on you was a movie that i worked on briefly (uncredited) over the summer. i saw it in the theaters with my family while i was down there. it was surprisingly sweet. a little strange, but sweet.

one super cool thing michelle and i did today was to visit the california academy of sciences in golden gate park. since they're moving to a new location in 2008, today was the last day to check everything out. because of this, they were also allowing everyone to attend with free admission!

by far, one of my favorite fish to check out at the aquarium is the four eyed fish. the thing that cracks me up the most about the four eyed fish is that the females and males have reproductive organs which turn either to the left or the right. because of this, a left female can only mate with a right male and a right female can only mate with a left male. shakespeare would have a field day with that.

i only find this funny because it's probably true.

danfuzz and i were talking about danger's move into pdi's old office building. i was telling him that one of the my fondest memories about that particular building had to do with the fact that every year a flock of wild parrots would migrate to the tree right outside my office. it then occurred to me that i never bothered to find out why there is a flock of wild parrots in the san francisco bay area. lo and behold, it turns out that there's a book.

yesterday, i attended the the twelve hour lord of the rings trilogy tuesday at the metreon. it was pretty frikkin' cool. what made it even funnier is that i dragged out my old keymaker costume from halloween and wore it to the screening. (yes, it's true. i'll do anything in the name of comedy.)

12.14.03

for a second, i was wondering where all my social security money was going to and so i stumbled upon this baby boomer generation website

i remember first hearing about the death of timothy treadwell and thought it was really disturbing.

roy disney has resigned... from disney. i can tell you that the animation community is flabbergasted, now walt's nephew has a new website up to save disney. back off, eisner!

another sign that the apocalypse has struck is that everyone around me is downed with the flu. it's bringing the ocd out in me. germs. must wash hands. it's everywhere! run for the hills!

wow!! i won third place in the spelling bee! yay!! all i have to say is to watch out for those french words. damn the bourgeoisie! (i will never misspell that word again. ever.) i did win a 5-disc dvd player though! i can spell dvd.

sweet jebus, is it december already? time flies when it's spinning wildly out of control...

the short story: the company i work for does an annual aids foundation fundraiser. this year there's a spelling bee involved. i don't know how i got roped into it, but somehow my department decided that they wanted to send me to the aforementioned bee, so they raised $500 to sponsor yours truly (the tiny kid with the really difficult name). on wednesday, i'll be standing in front of a crowd hoping i don't get anything like onomatopoeia... because that's a frikkin' difficult word.

which leads me to why we had a screening of spellbound today. good movie. check it out.
