i
know, i know. i'm such a punk. i don't believe in new year's resolutions
either. i try to make 'em a daily thing; if i had to wait once a
year, i'd never get off my couch.
i
should note that my daily resolution is usually along the lines
of "i will try not to act as retarded as i did yesterday."
this
resolution is usually broken by lunch time.

it
turns out that blipverts are real. the wacky thing is that we're
doing it to ourselves. cbs is about to release the results of research
that they performed which indicates that watching
fast forwarded commercials on your dvr increases your retention
for the ads. (link via brendan)
it's
funny that i recently mentioned that i don't try to typically link
via boingboing, since everybody on earth reads them (for good reason).
it turns out that boingboing now has a link to the chillits time
lapse (via the chillits
dj set) that i made this year. btw, rusty is awesome for hosting
the time lapse on somafm.
jon
tells me i might like this because it's the
opposite of stop motion. it seems like a more developed system
of the "bullet time" camera arrays made for high speed
photography. very cool.

i
forgot to post earlier that fluxblog
gave our latest cd a really nice review. thanks, fluxblog!
thank
someone, somewhere, that christmas is over. i could feel immediate
decompression the moment i drove away from los angeles and i think
i'm almost 100% back to normal lorelei altitude. please feel free
to put your chair in the reclining position and you are welcome
to use all electronic devices. refreshments will be served shortly.
i've
said it before, and i'll say it again. i have the biggest crush
on jon stewart - the most perfect guy in the universe would be a
hybrid between jon stewart and lloyd dobler. (hey, i'm allowed a
good daydream. what the hell.) anyway, i hadn't noticed until now
that terry
gross has a great interview with jon stewart on fresh air. (thanks
to jim for restoring cable tv at the house. that daily show hiatus
went much too long.)
christmas
time means hanging out with my sisters while we try to avoid our
mom. over the break, we caught lemony
snicket and life
aquatic. snicket reinforced the fact that i'm still not the
biggest fan of jim carrey (although all the other actors in the
movie were terrific, the production design incredible and the special
effects fantastic) while life aquatic confirmed that i'm totally
in awe of wes anderson... and anyway, filipino pirates can't be
beat.
the
sisters and i also caught body
worlds. it's simultaneously incredibly disturbing and somewhat
educational. i think i may have learned a lot more about anatomy
in two hours than i have over the past ten years.
vice
magazine's do's and don'ts of fashion are usually super hilarious.
jesus and satan have joined forces to present us with vice's
do's and don'ts to everything. take with grain of salt while
laughing. (link via chris)

i'm off
to have another christmas in the scorching hot blaze of the l.a. sun.
there will be spotty email and no updates until i return. hope your
holidays are tolerable and spike the cider for me, please.
12.23.04
if
you knew robert
joseph, you would know that he's a kind, talented soul. he passed
away from a heart attack on december 12th at the age of 34 and the
world has one less bright spot that shines. i didn't really connect
with him after college, which makes it that much sadder. it seems
sort of weird to announce this sort of thing on a website, but i'm
too stunned to know what else to do. rest in peace, my friend.
12.22.04
i
don't typically link from boingboing,
since i figure you probably read that site too, but i thought this
was goddamn brilliant: planned
parenthood has started a new pledge-a-picket program. for every
picketer that shows up at their door, you donate money. i love,
love, love it.
12.20.04
i
just realized that christmas puts me in a wickedly foul mood every
freaking year, whether i'm conscious of it or not. apologies to
my friends who have to tolerate me around this season.
although
it's only a small part of the reason (for the season), here's an
interesting
article on consumerism that rusty sent out. on the one hand,
it makes me feel a little under the magnifying glass, but on the
other, i disagree with some of its more accusatory points. one good
counter point i've heard is that this article doesn't account for
the fact that sometimes a purchase is made on quality, rather than
status (admittedly, sometimes a difficult trait to separate.)
12.19.04
ben
& i watched big trouble in little china again because cassidy
had never seen it. that and buckaroo banzai were two of my favorite
movies during my particularly nerdly teenage years. i hadn't noticed
until now that they both have w.d.
richter in common. who is this genius and why hasn't he made
more films?!?
cassidy
noticed that james
hong, who played the eye-obsessed lo pan was also the same voice
as the eye maker in blade runner. cassidy has a good ear for eyes.
12.18.04
true.
strange shit happens all the time. but this time, on the road trip,
it happened at frank lloyd wright's fallingwater.
i
hate cingular. ever since at&t morphed into cingular, the
service at my house has been mega-crap. never has a corporation
been able to single-handedly get me in a completely irate mood.
is it possible to assasinate a company? mercenaries please apply
within.
12.17.04
chris
sent out this link about a santa cruz artist who creates crazy
geometrical models out of metal.
12.16.04
i
have a special place in my heart for drunk santa stories. here's
one that steve sent me about
a santa brawl.
i'm
going crazy with the stop motion! everyone watch out - here's the
latest from keri's
birthday party. (happy 30th, girl!)
12.09.04
i
think i use the term 'dude'
more than most of the guys that i hang out with (and between being
the only girl in a seven person band and the only female editor
at work, i find that i hang out with a lot of guys). it must be
the lazy, inarticulate surfer in me... dude.
when
i get around to writing about the new york leg of my road trip,
you'll be able to read about the hawk that attacked me while i was
hanging out at the penthouse in manhattan. although i had an antagonistic
relationship with the sucker, i'm sad to report that they've
torn his nest down. (link via jory)
eat
a big bowl of cheetos and stuff yourself full of brie. now you're
prepared for film's
top ten cheesy moments.
12.07.04
lewis
black will be ranting at the warfield in january. it's probably
one of the only times when i've bought tickets from ticketmaster
at exactly 10am on a sunday. can't wait for possible laughing related
asphyxiation.
my
co-workers and i watched supersize
me during lunch. as a comedy bit, one co-worker went out and
got us all mcdonald's food to eat while we watched. it's the first
time i've eaten fast food in maybe five years and man... did i feel
gross.

just
what you've always wanted to see: artist
renderings of cartoon character's skeletons. (link via jd)
12.04.04
i
went to the curious
creatures opening over at punch gallery the other night. i went
because damon
soule and jeremy
fish had some pieces there, but mostly, i went for the toys.
